I want to give you one of the clearest signs that you’re still emotionally stuck after a breakup. Your attention is still pointed at them. What are they doing? Who are they talking to? Do they miss me? Have they moved on? Are they happier without me? Did they look at my profile? Are they going to come back? Listen to me. You can spend hours trying to answer those questions and still be no closer to healing than you were when you woke up this morning. There’s actually psychology behind this. Research on romantic breakups has found that attachment anxiety is associated with greater rumination and breakup distress. Researchers have even found that continuing to desire that attachment with an ex is associated with yearning and an automatic tendency to move toward reminders of that person. In other words, part of you keeps reaching for the very person you’re trying to learn how to live without. That’s why you check the phone. That’s why you look at their social media. That’s why one little breadcrumb from them can change your entire mood. Your brain is still treating them like the place where relief is supposed to come from. Here’s where healing begins. You stop asking, “What are they doing?” You start asking, “What am I doing?” What am I doing with my life? What am I doing with my attention? What am I doing with the part of me that thinks I need somebody else’s validation in order to feel okay? Because becoming anchored doesn’t mean you suddenly stop caring. It means their behavior stops controlling your emotional weather. They can text you—or not text you. They can look at your profile—or never look again. They can miss you—or move on. You’re still standing. That’s the shift. From anxious to anchored. From constantly looking outside yourself for reassurance to rebuilding enough security inside yourself that you don’t need another human being to determine whether you’re going to be okay. That’s what I want for you. Not just getting over them. I want you to become so anchored in who you are that you never again have to abandon yourself trying to convince somebody else to choose you. #healing #breakuprecovery #relationships #anchored
