China is a completely cashless country. You only use electronic payments to pay for everything, including your food, transportation, and Hotel, while on the streets of the city. I found a vendor, making some very beautiful artwork, and I wanted to pay for it for some of the Chinese locals. However, the vendor only had one form of electronic payment, called WeChat, and myself as a tourist only had the payment of Alipay, so it was impossible for me to pay for the product.
