Ezekiel 18:20 – "The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son." Deuteronomy 24:16 – "Children shall not be put to death for their fathers; each one shall be put to death for his own sin." When Jesus welcomed children, He said, "for of such is the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 19:14). At the same time, children can suffer the earthly consequences of their parents' choices (poverty, abuse, bad examples, etc.), but that is different from being eternally condemned because of their parents. The Bible also shows God's special concern for children. For example, in Jonah 4:11, God mentions the many people in Nineveh who could not "discern between their right hand and their left hand," indicating His compassion toward those who lack understanding. Different Christian traditions have different views about the fate of children who die before they are able to understand and respond to God. However, most agree that God is perfectly just, merciful, and loving, and that He will not treat children unfairly. So the biblical principle is clear: children are not lost merely because their parents are lost. Each person is accountable before God, and God judges righteously. (Ezekiel 18:20)

Influence is a real biblical principle, but influence alone does not automatically determine whether someone is saved or lost. Parents can strongly influence their children. A child who grows up seeing certain behaviors may come to believe those behaviors are normal. This is one reason God places great responsibility on parents to teach and model His ways (Deuteronomy 6:6–7; Ephesians 6:4). At the same time, the Bible shows that people are not judged solely by the influences around them. For example: Many godly people came from ungodly families. Some ungodly people came from godly families. God looks at each person's heart and response to the light they have received (Romans 2:6–16). In your example, if a 13-year-old girl observes her mother's behavior, the influence may affect her thinking. But whether she is ultimately accountable before God depends on what she understands, what opportunities she has to know the truth, and the choices she makes as she grows. Influence can make obedience more difficult or easier, but influence itself does not condemn a person. God judges righteously and takes all circumstances into account. A helpful biblical balance is: Parents are responsible for the influence they exert. Children are not automatically condemned because of that influence. As children mature, they become increasingly responsible for their own choices before God. (Ezekiel 18:20)
