Every day, travellers along the Tema–Akosombo Highway are welcomed by energetic hawkers carrying baskets of warm abolo, fried fish, snails, and spicy pepper sauce—making Kpong one of Ghana’s most beloved roadside food destinations. Abolo production, selling, and hawking are major sources of employment and income for many people in Kpong, contributing significantly to the local economy and supporting countless households in the community. Fishing on the Volta River and Kpong Headpond remains a major source of livelihood for many residents. The Kpong Wharf Fish Market serves as an important centre for the sale, processing, and distribution of fresh fish. Kpong is also home to the Kpong Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to Greater Accra region, Eastern Region and surrounding communities.
