While we have great leaders in the past, dont forget Sg became successful because the people shared the government's vision and worked towards that goal. That same leaders could have failed if they were to run a country other than Sg.

If I may add, I think Singapore had also shown a significant path forward for China in her initial opening up. Of course China as a much bigger nation had also learned other aspects from other countries and her leaders and people had made tremendous efforts and sacrifices to bring China where she is today.

LKY had to be exceptional in his leadership in the early stages of Singapore’s economic development. From Tungku kicking Singapore out of Malaysia to the 1980s; we had to survive. It was tough times. And tough times make strong men. Could LKY have softened his iron grip on selected policies without missing the mark for economic excellence?

yes he is very right. I hope the govt can embark on a campaign to create a film on Singapore history since independence and our former founding leaders etc and insert it into maybe the school curriculum like social studies. (that way our young generation will be 'forced' to gain this information

For my LKW is one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century. In the formative years of S'pore he could have chosen so many different roads: communism, corruption, absolute ddictorship but NO. He had an absolute clear vision for S'pore.I wish I could have met this great man!

I was a M’sian and coming from there, I’d say that SG journeyed in the fair & right direction. Firm and serious leaders raise the standard of administration. I salute LKY and all who has helped in the development of SG.
