The “Seven Mosques” in Madinah is one of the most significant historical sites in Islamic history.
It is a group of small mosques located close to each other in one area.
Main History
All these mosques are with the “Battle of the Trench” (Ghazwat al-Khandaq – 5 AH).
During this battle, Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and his companions dug a large trench to protect Madinah from enemies.
Later, mosques were built at the locations that served as defensive positions during the battle.
What are the Seven Mosques?
In reality, there are only six mosques in this area. However, by including a nearby mosque, it is commonly referred to as the “Seven Mosques.”
Main mosques:
1. Masjid Al-Fath
👉 The main site where the Prophet (ﷺ) stayed and prayed during the battle
2. Masjid Salman Al-Farsi
👉 Named after the companion who suggested digging the trench
3. Masjid Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (RA)
4. Masjid Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA)
5. Masjid Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA)
6. Masjid Fathimah Ar Zahara (RA)
Some consider the 7th mosque as:
• Masjid Al-Qiblatain or
• Masjid Al-Rayah

• Located near Mount Sila in Madinah
• A direct historical site of the Battle of the Trench
• Places where the Prophet (ﷺ) and companions stood in defense
