There’s a massive contracture of detail, especially in NYC and the US. The pseudo minimalism aesthetic has really pushed everything to blend together to be as mass appealing as possible. You see it in how coffee shops really have so little variance, how skyscrapers all have the same metal and glass veneer, and how all the little things in the world don’t have the gaudy and tacky aesthetic that might turn some people off but stay memorable for the rest of us. The world has become afraid of cringe, and we all need to respond by turning down the judgement and admitting the joy of variance
