With a digital scale things changes. If you put re Rubber band so that it will show 100gr, adding 50 gr you will read 150 gr. because the rubber band almost doesn't change its strenght, just 0.4 mm displacement at full load.

The 50g will add to the load by the rubber band. 150g The loadcell in the digi-scale will not move enough to alter the tension in the rubber band. (maybe some micro meters)
