@graceforpersonalityhires: One of the biggest stressors for me in my business has always been that I just genuinely love working with other people. I love having a shared place to go. And still, it’s so easy to just give in to the inertia and stay comfortable, stay where it’s convenient, stay limited.
One part of this conversation about remote work I think gets ignored is the opportunities it can bring to people outside of large metro areas. I live in rural Michigan and have a great job at an office based in Denver. I wouldn’t have this opportunity without remote work. And as a more introverted person, working at home means my social energy can be directed at the people and things I care most about! Not just surviving 40 hours a week in an office setting.

disagree. you said you're 85% extroverted, is that the average human person?

You can just write about being lonely in a journal, no discourse to be had here

As a mom that has been able to homeschool my kids for 12 years, remote work has been a blessing. But I get what you are saying. I had to fight tooth and nail to go from physical auditor to head of audit but it was worth it!!!

❤️Living in so much ‘comfort’ and never having inconvenience is something I want to fight against. It is not easy! Thank you for this reminder.

I literally just came out of a meeting where people who were remote were brought in to meet with the team in person and they expressed how great it was to finally meet and engage in person. and how different the experience was vs online & how so much traction was gained in a short period of time. remote definitely has its cons. those who enjoy it most, often dwell on the heavier side of complacency. I think a hybrid schedule is most beneficial

I think the key is giving people the flexibility of working remotely when it suits them and the business needs. Not creating this false sense of “we need you to come into the office to collaborate” when you sit at a desk on zoom calls all day. But otherwise I agree, I miss the sense of community and seeing people. I’ve been mainly remote for 6 years now and once my maternity leave is over I’m so excited to start going into the office again.

It is really hard; I’ve been doing it for 6 years now for my business / MSc and now PhD. I’m currently doing lab research and LOVE having somewhere consistent to go outside of my busy travel seasons. It’s a big consideration in my career / business plans post-PhD!

Im 4 years going on 5 years in a remote marketing job amazing pay. I live in nyc too so I have lots of community around but I really am really ready to have atleast a hybrid structure. I feel so much happier when I’m around people and working towards something in person.

I prefer remote but I agree it *doesn’t serve employees* as well as they think. One reason is that most remote and mixed workplaces still aren’t remote native. That being said I don’t think people disagree that it doesn’t serve them because they don’t really care about *how* it doesn’t serve them. They’ve implicitly made a trade off and prefer it.

lol, I’ve never taken a test, but I’m like 99% introverted. Even my cats are too much sometimes. I have two kids and a husband. Maaaaaybe once the kids are grown I will want to go back. Maybe.

I did it for 12+ years and loved it. Gave me freedom to manage my time. Saved me at least 20k a year and 2 hours everyday. Most importantly the stress that comes with traffic. Even more importantly to socialize with people other than work.

So here’s the thing - as a MOM working remote is everything. It’s allowed me to make 6 figures and never have my child in extended care. As a HUMAN, I miss in-office socializing and I’m an introvert. BUT you have to remember not everyone’s work environment in person is healthy or “creating inertia”. Anyways, I think your perspective fits you and isn’t a take that applies

I absolutely love it. Although I’m in meetings and calls all day so feel fulfilled with interaction. It’s given me so much for flexibility and I get so much more work accomplished. I agree this really depends on the person, I’ll never go back. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind a twice yearly team meetup but commuting everyday is a no

No ma’am. You absolutely have to be intentional about social interaction if you work remotely, but I promise you I’m a better person and better worker WFH vs in-office. Been doing this for five years and it’s a non-negotiable for me. The roles and opportunity for advancement have been significantly better for me compared with what’s available locally.

I agree- I’ve owned my business for 15 years and our team has always been remote. There are obvious pros but there’s a level of difficulty that makes or breaks people.

Couldn’t imagine not working remotely. It just means I have to be more intentional on how I socialize and build my soft skills. It allows me to show up in person for my community - I want to retire early so I can volunteer full time. Work isn’t everything.
