@stephenpetro411: In *The Intelligence Trap*, David Robson argues something unsettling: The skills that got you good grades, success, and recognition are the same ones creating your worst blind spots. Expertise makes you faster at reaching conclusions — which means faster at reaching wrong ones, with total confidence. High verbal ability makes you better at justifying beliefs you already hold. So the smarter you are, the better you are at convincing yourself you're right when you aren't. Quick pattern recognition, confident reasoning, efficient processing — exactly the skills that cause smart people to double down on flawed frameworks instead of questioning them. And the research suggests this isn't rare. It's the default. So the most important question a high-performer can ask isn't "how do I get smarter?" It's: where is my intelligence currently working against me? The blind spot you can't see is always the most dangerous — and the more confident you are, the bigger it probably is. #CriticalThinking #CognitiveBias #Mindset #Psychology #BookTok

Excellent insight by the author. The greatest danger of intelligence is not ignorance, but the illusion of certainty. Intellectual humility remains one of the rarest and most valuable virtues.

What you're talking about isn't really being smart. It's being able to memorize. being smart is not rewarding in school😐

You're focused on the intelligence. The intelligence is a variable. The system that trained it is the constant. David Robson's research, published in 2019, documented something that elite institutions have known and never publicized, the higher a person's measured cognitive ability, the more skilled they become at constructing justifications for beliefs they already hold. Intelligence doesn't make you more likely to be right. It makes you faster and more convincing at being wrong. Robson called this "earned dogmatism", the certainty that comes from success in systems that rewarded your particular way of thinking. Every credential, every institution, every hierarchy of expertise is partly a system for identifying people who think the right way and granting them increasing authority to define what "right thinking" means. The most dangerous participant in any knowledge system is not the ignorant person. It's the highly credentialed person whose intelligence has been bent, over decades of institutional reward, into the perfect instrument for defending the consensus that built them. This is why the people who change paradigms almost never come from the center of the field they're changing. Copernicus was a canon administrator. Darwin delayed publishing for twenty years. The Wright Brothers were bicycle mechanics. The institution is optimized to produce excellence within its current framework. It is structurally incompetent at producing the thought that replaces the framework. The smartest person in the room is often the last one to see what the room is doing….

Please always mention the nuance. It's not as black and white. The same thing also applies to dumb people coming to conclusions really quickly over analyzing stuff very quickly and not fact checking themselves. This kind of thing can also apply to dumb people. So please always mention the nuances.
