@sineadbovell: If we could design the workforce from scratch, what would we want it to look like? That is the question I posed in my talk at Toronto Tech Week. I think we often assume the future will simply be an extension of the systems we inherited, a model of work shaped in large part by the Industrial Revolution. But is that chapter still the best blueprint for the future? Or can we do better? AI gives us an opportunity to look at the future of work as a design question, not just a forecasting exercise. What should we intentionally carry forward? What should we be willing to redesign? And how do we build systems of work that are more adaptive, more human, and better suited to the world we are actually entering?

Corporations also don't know how to interview for their positions & actually want input from the applicant. Ughhh

My sense is corporations largely think that their employees (and customers to a large part) are the unfortunate things they have to deal with in order to get their money. So, no high-minded thinking about what we want the future of work to be like.

everyone has deserved everything for the entirety of humanity, and yet, these systems in place have done nothing forward-facing in this respect. Taking a look into democracies instead of radically suboptimal republics, we do see individuals' input actually holding weight. I think discussing things of this nature can be helpful, but just how affable is it under a capitalist republic?

If you could pick one structural change that would make the biggest impact on our daily work lives, what would you prioritize to make it more human?

This is the brave one...naming the thing underneath everything else. The word that stays with me is aliveness: most of the reimagining of the workforce stays in the frame of treating humans as machinery -just a better version of it. What you're really pointing to is the question beneath the question -what keeps a person in their aliveness and all of the ways we have the capacity to express our lived intelligence instead of extracting from them like it's still the industrial revolution! That's the layer I've been building in.
