@colossal: Doomscrolling the apocalypse is a pretty terrible motivational strategy. We know the biodiversity crisis is serious, but leading with nothing but “doom and gloom” just makes people freeze up. It’s called eco-anxiety, and it’s the exact opposite of what we need right now. If we’re going to get younger generations moving, we need to offer more than just a highlight reel of disasters. We need hope. That’s where projects like de-extinction come in. They’re the antidote to the dread, sparking a sense of wonder and possibility that actually feels empowering. Those are the feelings that break through the noise and remind us that science is still capable of the extraordinary. Hope is never extinct.
