The Hidden Agenda Behind the Attacks on Fr. Mbaka In every democratic society, freedom of speech is a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution. It gives citizens the liberty to speak against injustice, defend the oppressed, and contribute to national development through constructive criticism and advocacy. Since his priestly ordination in 1995, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has consistently exercised this constitutional right in the service of humanity. Throughout the military era, including the regime of General Sani Abacha, and under successive democratic governments, Fr. Mbaka has remained a courageous voice for the poor, the marginalized, and the less privileged in society. For over three decades, he has spoken against social injustice, corruption, insecurity, and policies that negatively affect ordinary citizens. Beyond speaking out, he has demonstrated practical compassion through countless humanitarian interventions—providing scholarships, paying school fees, settling hospital bills, empowering families, and offering support to those in need. Recently, Fr. Mbaka once again demonstrated his concern for the nation by speaking out and praying for the release of kidnapped school children. He also called on government authorities to take responsibility for the security and welfare of their citizens. Such actions are consistent with his long-standing commitment to truth, justice, and human dignity. Given this history, one must ask: on what basis should a fellow priest compare him to Adolf Hitler or portray him in such a negative light? Such remarks raise serious concerns and appear less about the issues at hand and more about a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of an individual who has dedicated his life to the service of God and humanity. Every reasonable observer understands that sometimes controversies are not about what is said, but about who says it. When a man has spent decades defending the voiceless, speaking truth to power, and uplifting humanity, attempts to demonize him deserve careful scrutiny. It is also important to reflect on the principles of priestly fraternity and Christian charity. The Church teaches mutual respect, brotherly love, and constructive dialogue among its ministers. Public attacks that seek to ridicule, discredit, or destroy the image of a fellow priest do little to promote unity within the Body of Christ. History bears witness that Fr. Mbaka has faced opposition before. Yet, through every challenge, God has remained his defender. The same God who sustained him through past trials continues to guide and protect him today. People may call him different names, misrepresent his intentions, or attempt to paint him in a negative light, but his decades of service, sacrifice, and contributions to society remain visible for all to see. His record speaks louder than the accusations of his critics. At a time when the nation faces numerous challenges, the focus should not be on character assassination but on meaningful contributions to nation-building, social justice, and the welfare of the people.
