These nations gaining their independence from Spain didn’t erase this practice it rearranged it and “mestizaje” too reign absorbing indigenous identity and erasing African identity. Celeste Amarillo is Mestizaje herself and admits to have experimddd racism in Paraguay and she’s also not at the top of that hierarchy.
