These objects belonged to Kings Psusennes I and Shoshenq II, rulers of Egypt’s Third Intermediate Period, whose burials rank among the richest ever discovered. The funerary equipment of Shoshenq II includes an extraordinary silver anthropoid coffin in the form of the falcon god Sokar. Because silver was rarer than gold in ancient Egypt, this masterpiece is one of the most remarkable royal coffins ever found. These masterpieces demonstrate the immense wealth of the Tanite kings and the exceptional skill of ancient Egyptian goldsmiths.
