@christian.grossi: American traveler shares strange experience in Japan Japan is one of the most beautiful and welcoming countries in the world. However not all the time. The Japanese people are very friendly but they are people of tradition. And some of them like to keep to themselves and avoid any contact with foreigners. Many restaurants, bars, stores will say Japanese only. And well you shouldn’t even walk in there. But the one thing I wish I knew before coming to Japan was being turned away from restaurants. Many times it’s an older Japanese person who doesn’t speak very good English and u may only hear “closed” or “full”. This is there way of saying I am too busy and don’t want you to wait a long time. If this happens it’s not a disrespect thing, just say okay and smile. Then find another restaurant. #fyp #tellme #traveltiktok #japan #usa
life rule: go where you're wanted and appreciated!

“Japanese Only” USUALLY pertains to the language barrier and not so much about being a foreigner. It is sometimes challenging and difficult for the restaurant workers to communicate in a good and proper manner since many don’t speak other languages. The second part is about the quality of service that Japanese want to provide and if one or two people can’t handle larger numbers of guests they don’t want to do a disservice to you.
