I love that it isn’t even a redemption. In his heart he knows that he shouldn’t be forgiven, it hurts that people are finally willing to look past it the moment he’s starting to feel his fuckups the most. He doesn’t think he deserves redemption past a certain point. All that matters is saving who he can. He doesn’t do his last act selfishly seeking redemption, he does it because it’s the right thing to do.
