I usually just grab the tape and peel all the way down the wall when they do this.

Yes, go ahead bury it, electricians like a challenge. They can locate the device box with their device box finding tool, the one with a solid metal piece on one side and claw on the other side. No problem. They will usually start a couple feet from where they think the box is and just start hammering away until they locate it. 😁

as an electrician, I approve of this message. I also acknowledge the back and forth battle between drywallers and electricians. they do this because of what we do when they cover up our outlets that are clearly marked on the floor.

cooperate with each other, believe it or not, if you stuff some paper in the box and then glob it in, one small hammer smack pops the glob right out and the paper keeps it from mucking up the wires. everyone wins with a little communication and cooperation
