I could draw similar comparisons between many songs, and we could approach it rhythmically, modally, structurally, or melodically. When people say that most pop songs are based on Pachelbel’s Canon in D, it isn’t that they are consciously copying anything, but rather that the available chords in any given key lean that way. I might argue that the same thing is going on here.
