@drivewithed: Everyone loves saying leasing is throwing money away, but the real question is what you actually own after years of payments on a depreciating asset. Buying versus leasing isn't as simple as owning versus renting. How long you keep the car completely changes which option actually makes sense. @drivewithed #carleasing #vehiclefinance #homeownership #negativeequity

There are pros and cons to both. Personally, I finance my vehicles because I don’t want a car payment forever. For most families, a vehicle is one of the biggest monthly expenses after housing, so eventually eliminating that payment is a huge financial benefit. Yes, cars depreciate, but financing still lets you build some equity. When it’s time for another vehicle, I can trade mine in and use that equity as a down payment. For example, I might trade in my Honda CR-V and still have around $10,000 in equity to put toward my next vehicle. With leasing, you’re essentially starting over every few years. In today’s market, $0-down leases are much less common if you want a reasonable monthly payment, so many people end up putting several thousand dollars down every 3 years, plus taxes and fees. At the end of the lease, you turn the vehicle in and don’t have any equity to apply to the next one. Neither option is right for everyone, but I prefer financing because once it’s paid off, I have years without a car payment while still owning an asset I can sell or trade when I’m ready for something new.

That’s true and also another idea is buy a car that’s typically 2-3 years older than the new model and it’s already depreciated about 35- 50 percent on average. Than you can always trade that it in and not lose crazy money
