Do you actually know what happens when a modern striker doesn’t press? It forces the midfield to work twice as hard to cover the gap. That is the ultimate bottleneck for Portugal. You can’t blame Bruno when he’s running himself ragged doing Ronaldo’s defensive work. Massive ego combined with complete immobility and uncooperativeness is a toxic mix for a World Cup teamc especially one trying to integrate a young, developing midfield. Look at the difference with Messi losing to Saudi Arabia. Even when Argentina struggled, Messi dropped deep, created plays, and cooperated with his team. Ronaldo just stands there waiting to be spoon fed, and then blasts it into the stands. He’s actively holding the next golden generation back
