@land_or_go_around: Helicopter rotor blades do far more than simply spin. The tip of a rotor blade can approach the speed of sound even while the helicopter is hovering, and each blade continuously changes pitch throughout every rotation to control direction and lift. Rotor blades are designed to flex significantly in flight, sometimes bending several feet under load while remaining structurally sound.#helicopter #pilots #funfacts #aviation #avgeek
one of my favorite words in the English language is "swashplate"

swash plates are so cool. I learned all about how helicopters work when I built RC ones, huge ones.

Physics and aerodynamics are absolutely fascinating. People who actually understand this stuff are the real genuises in this world.

Fully articulated rotor system. The individual blades can move up and down independantly, as well as back and forth (lead/lag). It actually helps the rotor out quite a bit in balancing everything.

The only part of a helicopter that actually flies is the main rotor. Everything else is just along for the ride.

You can’t have all the lift on one side you got a very the alpha, depending on the apparent windspeed across the blade

do they oscillate in the same wave or are the waves offset. and I'm assuming this is a natural oscillation and not purposefully done
