@gwen.osafo: The National Memorial for Peace and Justice, or National Lynching Memorial, is a place that I will never forget. The weight that is felt with every name you read and every “unknown” you come across will leave you permanently changed. The descriptions and justifications for why men, women, and children were brutally lynched will make you genuinely question humanity, and wonder how that same hatred still exists. Do not let anyone tell you that this history is not still running through the fabrics of this country. Erasure and apathy is the antithesis to progress. Happy Juneteenth🫂 #juneteenth #BlackHistory #BlackTikTok
This monument is literally the ONLY thing I would want to visit in Alabama

Legacies snatched. And to know that we are here simply because THIS was not the fate of our ancestors?! I have a goal to visit as many memorials/museums focused on black history as possible, but I don’t think my spirit could digest this one.

For everyone asking where it is located, it is located in Montgomery Alabama. It is 1 of the 4 sites that are part of the Legacy Sites (find them on IG) created by Bryan Stevenson who also leads the Equal Justice Initiative.

I had no idea about this memorial. A version of this should be required in every southern state.

It is an amazing museum. You can physically feel the weight of it, but it’s well worth the visit.

I’m 65 years old. Where has this been all of my life? Is it because of “where” I was raised? “Who” I was raised by? Obviously I see racism in our current administration however it wasn’t part of my family, life, or work. I’ve been a lifelong democrat, traveled the world and now this hurts me so deeply.
