I think something that feeds into this is the perception of the joy, I think there’s a lack of realisation that the happiness expressed by tourists and fans would be expressed wherever the cup is held. Arguably the only takeaway should be the criticisms

im scottish, theres been so much praise for us and our fans. ive been really proud this week. but the take away i have from this whole competition is we were allowed to have the "most loved fans" but Haiti couldnt bring any of their people due to US restrictions. fans really make it and directly positively impact the team when they play and Haiti didnt get that. breaks my heart

thank you. i've already seen too many videos of americans saying they're happy the world is discovering the us because at the end of the day they're a great country with good people "despite everything". it seems like their algorithm is only showing them only the positive reactions and blowing them out of proportion while hiding all of the negative ones. like i don't deny that football fans are enjoying themselves there, but most of it comes from the collective effervescence of the world cup and has nothing to do with the us itself. and enjoying the world cup is one thing, using it as a way to feel better about yourself and your country in spite of your government is another thing, especially since that government,that you voted for, is still committing crimes as before. seems like targeted propaganda to keep them happy, distracted and free of guilt, and it's working.
