I told my mom and she asked what the signs and symptoms are. I gave her a run down and she was like “ummm…. I need to go get tested too”

That wasn’t my experience unfortunately. My Mom didn’t want to believe it, but she also won’t learn anything about it to even see if she agrees.

Told my mom first and she proceeded to tell the entire family without even asking me first.

I’m not diagnosed, but I know in some my deep level that I’m autistic. And my family… pff they’re awful. If something is different than they know or want see, it’s automatically a bad. I mean, my mom saw me struggling interacting with strangers and even closest, and she said I’m sick. She directly said “what’s you, autistic or something that you can’t order food?”🥺 and the worst, that she really meant, she actually believed her words and in her head means that I’m, her daughter, is different, and basically stupid! She doesn’t understand that she’s hurting me even when only my own thoughts about being confirmed (diagnosed) autism, sends me in some place in my head that, i don’t want to be different, I want be normal 😭😭 I know my mom is cruel, she doesn’t understand me. But how to explain her that in my level? How to tell her that I’m struggling and it’s painful but she DOESN’T give s**t about this? I’m so lonely in that, and sometimes i think i might be unreal, that “do I really exist?” and “should I continue or just give up”. Just my little hear me out in this comment. Thanks for reading 🤝

Mine hasn’t changed. They called me paranoid, said I’m just super anxious when I tried to confide and tell them I think I’m autistic. Now I’m diagnosed they dont care and still think I’m just weak 🤘🏻😃

I’m really close to my family, but telling them did not go well. I’m self diagnosed, and they tried to convince me that it was OCD. They kept teasing me about it until I told them I didn’t think I was autistic anymore. I hate lying, but I wasn’t sure how else to make it stop. I’ve since read out the DSM-5 criteria them, and they’re a little more open to the idea. I’m pretty sure a couple of them are also undiagnosed and don’t know.

I told my mother like two years after I got my diagnosis. at first she seemed nice about it but then a few days later she sent me an article saying how dangerous it is to diagnose people with "dangerous illnesses" like autism. I was shocked and i read it twice to be sure I understood Correctly and then I explained to her it's nothing like that but she isn't really open to talk about stuff with me. also when I came out to her as a lesbian a long time ago she just ignored it.

I found out 4 years ago when I was 14, my parents pretend like that never happened, that I was misdiagnosed or they just don't talk about it at all. So I don't talk about it anymore either, instead what I do is I stopped masking around them, the funny thing is my father is the one who fundamentally understands me and my needs the most, I think he might be autistic too, but I'm not a doctor so, I live alone with him and we're so similar in that regard, it's just that he has a very outdated image of autism, so while I stopped mentioning it, I can still be my full true self around him which is nice, I only told my closest friends about my autism as well
