This definitely explains why all the foreigners coming to the US from all over the world feels like they've been lied to. They didn't even know rural America existed. And they actually enjoy it better than the cities.

Hmmm and when did Sci fi become popular again? 🤔 about the same time? A little later? Move the programming from "family values, self sustaining, and community connection" to "technology, space exploration, isolation, and new species of beings." Sci fi takes the viewers away from home. Rural shows brought home to the viewers (those living in rural communities felt seen. People outside rural communities learned that its okay to be kind to your community). A similar shift in shows happened when we were growing up, another shift happened mid 2010s, and now we have AI slop. Predictive programming at its finest..

and then it happened again in the 70s, into the 80s and all the shows were depicting big city life, Sanford and son, married with children, Laverne an Shirley, ,,

A little off-topic, but if people moved back to rural areas, we wouldn’t be worried about water in highly urban areas it would be so much better for resources if it was spread out!

Those were all very popular shows. They were replaced with My Three Sons, Leave it to Beaver, Doctor Kildare, Brady Bunch etc

I remember watching HEE HAW, GREEN ACRES, and THE BEVERLEY HILLBILLIES. They were such great shows. I don’t think, “The Rural Purge,” worked because THE WALTONS and THE LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE was a huge success.

This is interesting. I can’t think of any modern shows that are set in “rural” America, besides Yellowstone, but I’ve never even watched that. I’m from a small town in Texas and other small towns are actually, actively becoming ghost towns because people are moving out and no one is moving in to replace them.
