I grew up in a neighborhood in Rio Rancho that was right on the river. The Bosque and Rio Grande in that area was healing in my childhood. Now having lived in Albuquerque 10 years, driving back there makes me so damn sad. Theres so much less water, or no water at all, much more often in those same places.

I used to go and play there with my grandparents when I was really little. We would find cool rocks on the shore, and the dogs would run around. One time we found a big cube rock, and my grandparents bet me and my sister $20 that we couldn’t roll it uphill. I saved the $10 I got. Now, all of those memories can’t be relived by someone else, ever.
