Not to be the devil’s advocate here, but when in custody by police always remember the line of questioning by police is because they are trying to build a case to present in court against you. Never explain or give statements on your behalf & never incriminate yourself always ask for an attorney & shut the interview down because anything will be held against you in a court of law. Know your rights to remain silent is your 5th amendment right not to incriminate yourself without an attorney present. Just always remember this from a former criminal justice student who worked in the system in law enforcement.

If you are at a police station they want to talk. They would have you go straight to jail when they don’t need to know anything. Not talking also keeps you from learning what little bit of info they may possibly come off of that you may want to know.
