I like that most portray allergies as something deadly because it IS. I didn’t realize how dangerous and life-threatening it was until i decided to snack on pistachios😭

fully agreed and people tell me I’m sensitive for this but like!! My medical condition is not something to be used for shock value. If it was for the sake of raising awareness, I wouldn’t mind. But it almost always feels like they’re just making fun of us.

it could be triggering for those who have experienced it, so i do think maybe they should add a trigger warning but if done well and accurately it can be really great to the story

i definitely agree– i think the main issue is when an allergy is mentioned and then ONLY used as a killing thing, so then that causes the viewer to begin automatically assuming an allergy will be the cause of death, or is more deadly/a joke irl than it should be. allergies should be able to be casually mentioned without being used as a plot device!!

I think instead, people would appreciate examples of what you mean and how they can be written better. Medical issues will always be written in media, either for shock or genuine exploration. Censoring people from writing them in general as your post says is concerning.
