@paws.protection.a: When I first saw Buddy, I smiled… not knowing what I thought was a cute moment was actually because of the very thing that makes shelter life so hard for him as a senior. He was sitting in his kennel with his back legs splooted out behind him like a goofy old man trying to get comfortable. But when I stopped by to give him a treat, his back legs slowly slid on the bed as he tried to stand. Then again on the floor beneath him. And suddenly it wasn’t cute anymore. Buddy is 11.5 years old. He has arthritis, he’s overweight, and his body is tired. Every step looks harder than it should. Standing up takes effort. And of course, the shelter floors don’t help. This is not where a dog like Buddy is supposed to spend his golden years. And somehow, he ended up here as a stray. Old. Achy. Unsteady on his feet. And still looking up hopefully every time someone walks by. That’s the part that breaks me. Because Buddy just needs someone willing to love him through the slower chapter of life. A home where he can finally feel safe, comfortable, and loved instead of trying to survive. Buddy is heartworm negative, neutered, dog friendly, and peacefully coexists with other dogs. He would likely do best in a home without many stairs. Imagine getting older and your legs not working like they used to… and still ending up alone in a shelter anyway. But I still believe Buddy’s story can change for the better. Please come meet Buddy at Fulton County Animal Services and give him the chance he deserves.
