Totally understand this perspective, but outside of this very specific scenario it is much higher stakes that the person ordering the mocktail has in fact recieved the drink with no alcohol and KNOWS they have recieved a drink with no alcohol in it. One sip of the wrong drink that does have alcohol in it can ruin peoples lives - recovering alcoholics, pregnant people, people taking high risk medications, allergies, moral conflicts with drinking - Servers NEED to confirm the drink is non-alcoholic for the safety of the person they are serving. It's chill to ask the server to help you hide that you are pregnant but it cannot become standard practice, you cannot blame them for putting safety over preference or for forgetting, and you cannot expect them to agree to do so. There are plenty of excuses you can use for ordering a mocktail, even as a regular drinker... I think the bigger concern is your friends jumping to pregnancy just because you didn't drink.

It’s because like diet vs regular it’s always ok to accidentally give a diet to someone who drinks regular but never ok to give regular to someone having diet because it could be a health risk over a preference

Well once my husband and I accidentally got served alcoholic drinks while I was pregnant and he is a recovering alcoholic (and this was after they put us in “no alcohol” wrist bands) Soooo I would prefer the waiter to confirm that it’s non alcoholic.

It’s assumed a glass of wine has alcohol which is why it does not need to be stated what the alcohol content is. The non alcoholic beverages are not the default so it’s not absurd to say so.

I always just order a Diet Coke with a lime in it and they never say anything about that. They just hand it to you usually and then nobody knows if you’re drinking run and Coke

If you don’t want the waiter to announce it then tell them privately (say I don’t want my friends to know I’m pregnant etc). I’ve been asked this as a waitress and it wasn’t a big deal
