@aarondinin: I don’t know @realbraidenshaw, but judging by the size of his audience and his bio, he didn’t get to where he is because his degree gave him everything. He clearly worked hard and applied things he learned — both in school and out of school — to build something valuable. And that’s exactly what you can do, too, no matter what you major in. #college #student #collegeadvice #professor #careeradvice
This is unrealistic. Showing you examples gives you an idea of the kinds of opportunities there are. Your take sounds like "you could be a millionaire with a nursing degree" and pointing at a pro football player who happens to have a nursing degree as an example

You make some solid points but saying that degrees dont matter is just wrong. The average interpretive dance major will not make as much as the average accounting major. That’s just facts.

While a degree doesn’t necessarily guarantee outcomes, some degrees will help you make more money than other degrees. On average a person with an engineering degree will make more money than someone that majored in art. (Even though art is important) so borrowing money for a degree in a field that usually pays little is usually not a smart idea. Unfortunately some people learn this the hard way and get trapped in debt.

This conversation could be avoided if tuition was more reasonable. Check out what the Nordic countries are doing.

Unless you love what you do you won't stick with it. My first bachelor's was in Music therapy and I have never not had work and we are doing fine. Go to college (or not) to train for the jobs you want in the field you love.

The ROU listed is the average created by the individuals. But the fact of the matter is the harder you work in your field the better ROI you will achieve.

Nah… we live in a world where various metaphorical fire-breathing reptiles sit on vast fortunes (of which there is a finite amount, see money supply). These dragons employ gatekeepers to manage 20% of their hordes we call corporate managers and/or bureaucrats. The college degree was once a means of producing future gatekeepers and a small number of privileged learners for whom learning was leisure. Now it is a prerequisite to access the resources the gatekeepers are protecting. This ensures laborers begin life in debt so as to ensure wage slavery is the only lifestyle available to those who might challenge existing power structures. Only those who have the favor of the dragons or the gatekeepers can enjoy true measure of any economic freedom; all others must always chase a debt-free lifestyle they observe beyond the gates but the dragons demand that the markets keep prices high enough that the necessities require new endeavors require new debt to access necessary resources, so that financial actions require the permission of the draconic system. That way no new activity unseats the dragons and any true threats can be absorbed or restructured to serve the dragons (and not the would be usurpers). Meanwhile we have an educator on the distraction network insisting that this system has no meaningful impact on your how you’re allowed to spend your time/efforts. Why no! Your results are completely dependent on your efforts and choices. You have no one to blame but yourself. The dragons don’t make you poor, you are completely in the drivers seat… but if you actually want to drive a car you’re gonna need a loan and an income to service that loan. Oh you want a job that pays enough for rent, groceries AND a car?! Well you’re gonna need a business/engineering/science degree and 3 years experience for that…
