Kinda overkill. Toyota recommends oil changes every 10@k miles for a long time.

3k miles isn’t overkill. My grandpa was a very good mechanic for 40 plus years and he always changed his oil at 3k on the dot. All his cars had 400k plus miles on them and still ran when he got rid of them.

3k miles is fine. 5k miles is fine. No one should be waiting past 5k miles as going past that can cause a lot of damage. Also no one should listen to a dealership as they will say 10k miles until your next oil change. They say that so they can sell you a new car and turn a quick dollar. An independent shop will say that every 3k to 5k miles for a healthy engine will make it last longer. Also use synthetic oil but change it after 3k or 5k miles. Just depends on what is easiest for you or what works best for you

In my opinion, oil changes are based on preference. I always do mine in between 3,000-5,000. It’s really up to you.

Good call with the new housing. With my Tacoma I cracked my plastic oil housing and it was horrible to take it off after. The aluminum one is a must
