@thechrishinton: Most people think codependency is about another person. What if it’s actually about outsourcing your okayness to life’s outcomes? The relationship, the money, the health, the approval, the certainty… maybe they’re all pointing to the same thing. Maybe the deepest form of codependency isn’t with another person. Maybe it’s with reality itself. #codependency #codependencyps #h#healings#selfawarenessmentalhealth
Absolutely fantastic explanation of what codependency really is! I lived that way for many many years, until I lost someone I loved more than life itself and started on a quest to figure out what was really wrong with me and what needed healing. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and the people I love.

These parts were taught to us by our caretakers. That’s the most important part. They were installed not inherent.

What drives it is usually early conditioning — growing up in a household where love felt conditional, chaos was normal, or your role was to manage a parent's emotions (sometimes called being "parentified").
The distinction worth drawing: caring deeply about others is healthy. Codependency tips into dysfunction when your sense of identity, safety, and worth depends on controlling or managing another person's experience — and when you consistently disappear yourself in the process.
Recovery typically involves learning to identify your own needs, building internal self-worth rather than relational self-worth, and developing the capacity to be present for others without losing yourself.

My codependency is oxygen sunshine and a good bed🥰 if I have those three things I can wake up tomorrow and have just as much optimism for life as I did today

Got the book, these videos are great for sure! But THIS, I had to forward to my 18 year old daughter who feels she IS what people say she is, that she is what her self esteem says she is…. She is not, but this mama is having a hard time explaining this VERY SUBJECT. Thanks Chris ❤️

hello Chris... I need your take on codependency within a marriage when life events happen and how it relates to the villagers when it's health related ? I lost my health and I need my spouse financially and from a caretaker perspective and I'm not so sure she's listening "who's listening"... needs versus wants when circumstances change
