@childocdtherapist: Excessive washing can be one part of contamination OCD. Another part people often miss is the constant mental work of tracking what touched what. Their brain is constantly scanning: • Who touched that? • Where did that backpack go? • Can I still sit there? • What will I have to clean if I do this? That invisible mental checklist can be exhausting. It can make it hard to pay attention, enjoy time with friends, relax at home, or even accept a hug from someone they love. From the outside, it may look like they’re being dramatic, picky, or avoiding people. On the inside, they’re trying to keep up with an OCD brain that never stops calculating contamination. If you’re raising a child with contamination OCD, understanding what’s happening beneath the surface can completely change how you respond. this is my life but I can't fathom getting over things like this. it just feels how things should be. people should wash their hands and sanitize. it's exhausting but it's what feels right to me

How are you able to pet animals? I literally can’t do anything until I thoroughly wash my hands after I pet an animal

My mom takes it very personal😞😞😞 I feel terrible and do my very best to hide my discomfort and push through, but sometimes, the consequences are just way too exhausting for me to manage and I give in and she definitely gets frustrated with me.

Is there a way to help this? I don’t have OCD but I’m really curious. Is there like some sort of thing to prevent seeing things as contaminated?

all of this but the dog was a huge trigger for me. I love animals but I just cant have one because of my contamination ocd 💔😭 if I go to a friend's house who has a pet I can cuddle them and enjoy them but its a shower and full outfit change when I get home and all those clothes have to be washed separately from everything else or theyll contaminate stuff in the washer 🙈 so exhausting

okay something weird is that i had almost ALL symptoms of cleanliness ocd according to your videos, and they are EXACTLY how you act it out!! the thing is, after my dad completely laid on my bed and “contaminated” my whole room, i evebtually forced myself to touch more things and slowly grew out of it. so i dont actually know if i had ocd or what i had.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your videos. I feel so less lonely with those thoughts. and it also highlighted some of my routines that I didn't thought were part of my OCDs

i dont't know if this has been talked about on your account, but i often struggle with the timing at which my thoughts occur. Almost like i attach meanings to the thoughts that don't actually connect?

The purse and the shoes both being items contaminating the other. Ps. Living in a house with carpet feels like a Petri dish just one sq. Inch of carpet touching a contaminate is all it takes bc bacteria grows& quickly spreads to the entirety of the floor.

this is EXACTLY how my contamination OCD works! thus is a fantastic video. it's even worse when you tell people your triggers and then they forget cause it's not even their fault these things are so "normal" but they hurt so bad
