As long as our top division does not have promotion - relegation, we will never be a top tier team

We need more parks with soccer courts around the USA open 24 hours. So that kids can go and play. The best players develop their skills on the street.

In our city, It’s $100 for the season. Also, any group can begin a pure volunteer league, use social media to spread the message, and show up to a park for free. Bring your own goals. Boom…you have a youth league.

In Sweden, I think my parents payed about the eqivivalent of about $100 a year for me, including the club fee, the gear etc. Travel costs are not included in that

My son's team, based in the Northwest of England, costs £6 subs a session (training or match), he will usually play 3 or 4 times a week but that's through his choice. We also had to pay £25 registration fee for the league he is in, and as part of that he got his kit and will get a medal at the end of the season. Our biggest cost is the fancy boots he is asking for. His team is a very high standard in our area as well, with a former player at the World Cup playing for England, so it's high quality coaching and for a fraction of what you pay in US. For it to grow in the US, you need to make it affordable at a grassroots level, so people are getting into it as a kid looking for something to do.

We need academies. The clubs in MLS need to gain youth academies and scout at young ages. David Beckham said this years ago and nobody gave a shit.

it's just a ball and a goal, soccer doesn't require expensive equipment like baseball, hockey, or even football does so I just don't understand the complaint about it being expensive. so many kids who grew up poor end up making it to the NFL despite football being the much more expensive sport

Soccer should be the most affordable and accessible. There's not much equipment to buy. you need a pair of cleats
