Zhytomyr is a city in northwestern Ukraine, the administrative center of the Zhytomyr Oblast, Zhytomyr District, and Zhytomyr Urban Community, as well as the center of the Zhytomyr Metropolitan Area. It is divided into the Bohunsky and Korolevsky Districts. The Central Rada made a decision about its evacuation to Zhytomyr. The Central Rada, together with Mykhailo Grushevsky, arrived in Zhitomir between 27 and 28 September and remained here until 9 December 1918. That’s why Zhytomyr was the capital of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (hereinafter referred to as the UPR). Ancient history and beginnings of the place ed. Archaeologists have discovered Bronze Age settlements and burial mounds near the site, and early mining quarries. Monuments of the Scythian hour (XIII-III centuries BC) are widely represented in Zhytomyr. During this period, fortifications, settlements and burial mounds appeared here. The stench is visible in the areas of Smolyanka, Zarichan, Korbutivka, Staraya Rudnya, Malovanka, Sokolovaya Gora, Kroshnya. The burial grounds of the 7th century and the remnants of the old Russian settlement of the 10th - 13th centuries were also excavated within the area. Among the famous archaeologists who explored the Zhytomyr region were V. B. Antonovich, S. S. Gamchenko, I.  S. Vinokur, Rusanova in. According to the local legend, as recorded by the historian of the 19th century, priest Mykola Tripolsky, the place was founded around 884, and received its name from the name of the Russian warrior of the Kiev princes Askold and Dir - Zhitomir, who never decided to serve Oleg, hid in the forests and settled on a high cliff near the river Kamyanka and Teterev. Years ago, over a deep (about 30 meters) urvish above Kamyanka there was a wooden castle (on Castle Hill, where the branch of the regional archive was located). The famous Czech scholar-Slavist Pavel Josef Safarik, argued that the ancient settlement - the future Zhitomir - became the center of the tribe of Zhitichs, which was part of the tribal union of the Drevlyans. The name of the place is the world of the dwellers, as well as the tribe itself, the main occupation of which was grain farming, in honor of the important culture (growing) in this region - the life that has been cultivated here since time immemorial. And there are testimonies about those that in the old days barley sprouted in the center of the place. They said about the place: “peace and life”, “world of life”. It is also possible that Zhitomir is a shortened form of the word “Zhitomir”, a symbol of a peaceful, calm life. M.I.  Teodorovich in the article “Historical and statistical description of churches and parishes of the Volyn diocese”, recounting the previous ones, adds his own: “Zhytomyr is first recognized in historical acts in 1305 under the name of Zhivotov.” The first chronicle riddle about Zhitomir dates back to 1240, in connection with the campaign against the departure of the military Khan Baty after the defeat of Kiev[1][2][dzherel?]. At the time of the Mongol-Tatar invasion, Zhitomir was completely devastated and destroyed [3], the place suffered under the Tatars several times (until the 17th century). #city #historical #architecture #beauty #life
