There's no way Drake came up with that equation

it would be great if you explained Drake's equation 😁

It's not just possible, it's numerically impossible for earth to be the only planet in the universe to have intelligent life. But due to the unimaginably vast expanse of space we will never make contact with any other species out there.

That "we'd never know they existed" point hits hard. It reminds me of the rainforest analogy for the Fermi Paradox. From far away a rainforest just looks like a green blanket, but get up close and it's absolutely teeming with life you couldn't see before. Maybe the galaxy is the same and the silence just means we're still looking at the canopy from a plane. Would love a breakdown of the Drake equation variables btw.

Given the fact that life on earth survives in the most harsh conditions, I’d say that if there is a possibility for life to emerge anywhere in the universe, it will. Whether we can recognise that as life, is a different question.

Yes. This is the point no-one ever talks about. It's always "Where are the aliens", and never "*When* are the aliens". ✌🏼💙🎶

That's my thinking… Two huge factors that must be considered when trying to find life forms that would be similar enough that we could identify – the vastness of space, and the ridiculously short time frame we've been looking.

the more I learn about the Universe the more I'm convinced that we may be alone. Like a cosmic accident or the universe experiencing itself.

First generation stars did not have rocky planets because only hydrogen existed. The heavier elements needed those first stars to make the elements needed to make rocky planets. Even second generation stars probably didn't have rocky planets. I think our sun is either a 3rd or 4th generation star.
