The first working vapor-compression refrigerator was built by Jacob Perkins, a white American inventor, in 1834. Earlier demonstrations came from Scottish professor William Cullen in 1748. Frederick McKinley Jones, a Black American inventor, later created the first practical portable refrigeration unit for trucks in the 1930s, which transformed food transport. So the foundational mechanical refrigerator came from a white man, though Black inventors made key later contributions to mobile versions.
