Ever seen white manufactured sand (M-sand) and wondered why it’s not grey? 🏗️⚪ Unlike river sand, which gets its color from years of erosion and minerals, the color of manufactured sand tells us a lot about its parent rock. If you're seeing white or pale sand, here is the science behind it: 🧱 The Rock Type: White M-sand is typically crushed from high-quartz content rocks (like granite or limestone) or marble. If the original stone lacks iron or other dark minerals, the resulting sand will be light in color. 🪨 The "Clean" Factor: Unlike river sand, M-sand isn't mixed with soil, silt, or clay. A pure, washed crush from a clean source will naturally appear brighter. ⚙️ The Dust Factor: Sometimes, the absence of fine dust particles can make the sand appear lighter. In contrast, sand with a high dust content often looks duller or dirtier. The Verdict: A lighter color often indicates a very high silica (quartz) content, which is excellent for strength and durability in concrete! However, always check the gradation and quality report—color is just the first clue.
