I felt like it ment to be a mother to newtypes. Lalah was most in touch with the WooWoo space telepathic NewType stuff happening. she would be the mother of the future spacenoid development of Newtypes. the general feeling is that Char is a weak Newtype, i think its because he has a mental block. from having to be "Char Aznable", he gave up on being Casval, Quattro was just temporary skin, he doesnt know who he his. with Lalah, she could have helped "give birth" to the man/ Newtpe he thought he could been.

Yeah no a lot of char’s actions in CCA get misinterpreted. Like with Quess, he says in so many words that he saw her as a tool for his goals, just like Gyunei

i dont think this is mutually exclusive. a lot of women end up raising not only their children, but their husband as well. char is probably aware of how depressed his mind is, and that he harbors a wish for someone to comfort him, so he just blurts it out like that. Of course its always to be noted that trandlation can mess with how these lines read. Im personally not aware of how japanese audiences read this. Finally, I think most people, even if char means for her to be his mother specifically, dont think this is him having an oedipus complex. if it was, people wouldnt be confused by it. chars mom plays a staggeringly small role in the story compared to all other things, and theres nothing hinting for char having some complex over her. Thats why this line left so many people stunned.

Maybe he wanted a relationship where she supported him, and the closest example he could think of was his mother. Compared to his other relationships with women where he fails to reciprocate or whatever was going on with Nanai and Reccoa. Maybe he felt that his love for her was more pure?. I love his final line though.
