I dont shield because I dont want the ult to hurt me. I shield because the ult WILL hurt me. I'm mitigating the damage I take (from the entire enemy team) so that my supports still have a tank they can heal.

Yeah the comment have nailed this. The game isn’t black and white, sometimes the shield isn’t to block obvious damage but to support the team and external damage. It’s like when people think tracer is there to only kill people, sometimes she’s there to take their focus away from the team so they can push up

it's just a reaction, nobody will ever not use a barrier because it shouldn't go through barriers in the first place, earthshatter doesn't and it's also an ultimate that hits the ground, why does a pointy stick hitting the ground go through barriers but my earthquake doesn't?
