Dylan Lowman :
Harvester would be on #1 no doubt. Just a feeling they would’ve buckled down for something big soon after 85, and it would’ve pushed them further ahead. Deere would be 2 just because it’s Deere. The thing stopping them from #1 is harvester pulling ahead, plus not gaining the market share from the #3, Allis Chalmers. They were so close to having widespread market share like Deere. They had a machine whether you farmed in the northern dairylands, the central plains, or the Deep South. Losing them gave Deere a big gain in 85. They had the engineering and new ideas to back it up too, not just recycling the same hood, cab, engine, and trans for 20 years like Deere did. I’d say Case would be at 4, because of their innovations and continuously bettering lineup. Oliver at 5, because they really never seemed like a front runner, but were a super tough, quality machine. Ford and Massey almost tied at 6&7 just because they were both innovating, both growing but the 90s would’ve left them stunned and without NH, they never would’ve had the Genesis. I also feel like the Molines would’ve had a place at the table somewhere in there too. I think Allis could possibly beat Deere too, mainly because of their extensive dealer network scattered all across the country and there would be a lot more gleaner combines too
