@ashinishashidaran: every time you let a tool do your thinking for you, you borrow against your own brain. and that loan has interest. use it to extend your thinking, not replace it. #cognitivedebt #ai #criticalthinking
i hate that when you even google, the first answer at the top is AI

AI is like driving a car......... you can decide to walk, because you want to stay fit, but everyone else will be ahead of you!!

My mom was a nurse for 45 years. She learned to do the math in her head and declined to use a calculator once that became popular in her field. The reason she did is because she found that her math was accurate and more often than not people who used calculators were depending on the calculators to be right instead of verifying that they were. People would put in the numbers wrong and my mom caught a lot of mistakes sorry.

I agree, but my issue is that you can use that argument with every technology in existence. For example, writing by hand got cancelled by computers, but it made the process faster. You take cognitive debt when you use AI, but it frees up time for other activities, and you end up paying off the debt by creating a better result.

This only holds true if you're using it to replace your own thinking. The other way to look at that is working with a team of people, at work we may split up a large task, I don't need to know every detail of the work the team do, just the outcome.

Hmm depends what you use it for. Prompting can actually sharpen your cognitive skills as you need to think in a very systematic way. Most people just don’t know how to use the tools effectively that’s all it is. There’s high level prompting and low level prompting hence why companies pay people with the skill big bucks my friend.

Besides agreeing 100% with you and being thankful for emphasizing the importance of thinking it is the same in every industrialized/automated topic. Are we building our cars by hand? What about sewing? Painting pictures? Also should we travel on foot everywhere because using cars for travel making us fat?
