I had a parent call in sick for her 26yo daughter. Not hospitalized, no emergency care. Just a lil tummy bug. I was 22 and a manager at a smoothie shop.

dodged a bullet.......she would be calling in for her daughter, saying "I know she's scheduled 3-9 but she will be leaving at 7 because she didn't do the dishes at home". nope nope nope

The only way to learn how to do an interview is to do the interview. Everyone has a first time for everything

Meanwhile, in the 90’s, I had my mom drop me off a few doors away so the interviewer wouldn’t see me getting dropped off by my mom.

my very first job, at 14, the manager who interviewed me gave me tips on how to interview stronger.

I've had so many parents approach me on behalf of their kids for work experience or trainee positions. It's just an immediate no for me, if the child isn't capable of sending me an email or DM to ask if there's any openings, how are they going to interact with me for 8 hours a day?

My English class did mock job interviews in high school, with good and bad examples, everyone should do practice interviews!

there are alot more parents like this than you'd think 🙃 I've seen parents call in sick for their kids, apply to jobs for their kids, come to the interview with their kids etc.

I had the opposite problem when I was a manager of a movie theater. My boss had me let go one of the employees and his mom came in upset and questioning why. It’s too long ago to remember the exact conversation, but I was in disbelief that the employee’s mom came in.

Goodness. My 16 year old got her first job last year at 15 and she interviewed herself. If she can’t interview, then she’s not ready for a job lol
