It was a fitting name, because this little boy fought with every bit of strength he had left. I wish I had met him sooner. Aslan didn’t become this sick overnight. He was an elderly cat suffering from one of the most severe cases of mange I have ever seen. The crusting on his body was so thick it felt like armor. He was painfully thin, his bones visible beneath his skin, and the infection around his face was so severe that he could barely close his eyes. He received everything we could give him—antibiotics, Revolution, fluids, B12, warmth, syringe feedings, treats, and love. He especially loved his Temptations treats, and every time I petted him, he would lift his head and lean into it. I could tell he was trying to fight. But his little body was already shutting down. Despite every effort, he simply did not respond to treatment. We rushed him to the vet, hoping for a miracle, but Aslan passed away just as we arrived. I held him in my arms as he took his final breaths. My heart breaks for him—not because he wasn’t loved in his final days, but because he suffered for so long before help found him. Please, if you ever see a cat that looks sick, injured, neglected, or “not quite right,” don’t look away. If you can’t catch them yourself, call Animal Control, a local rescue, a shelter, the police, or someone who can help. One phone call could save a life. Cats do not end up like this overnight. Severe mange, starvation, and neglect happen over time, and these animals have no voice except the one we choose to use for them. Thank you to everyone who followed Aslan’s story, sent prayers, shared kind words, and rooted for him. I wanted so badly for this update to have a different ending.
