my #1 piece of advice for new grads: just start off in the area you truly want. It’s SO hard to transition to critical care or procedural specialties. They will only hire new grads or people with the exact relevant experience, your lil year of med-tele means nothing to them.

No forreal. I never even got 1 interview ever since I graduated and I have LVN experience. It’s been over a year. Can’t apply to jobs bc I don’t have 1 yr exp and I can’t even get accepted into new grad programs. The pay sucks too bc I’m still living paycheck to paycheck. All those people saying that it gets better after you graduate and that it pays so well is a lie 😂 I can’t even afford to move out with how low the pay is

Come to North Carolina to work with us for a few years. My hospital would love to help you get some specialty time under your belt. I’ve been here for 16 years, because it’s a good place to work. We pay for relocation and have sign on bonuses. LMK if your dad needs want more info.

10+ years as a nurse. Just got rejected from a job (where most of my experience is, like 8 years) due to “strong applicant pool”. Just keep applying. You’ll get something, don’t give up. It’s hard out here but a door closing just means a better one will open soon!

Relax. Maybe you need 2 years. We’ve all been there. I know it sucks but it takes time. You don’t know everything after 1 year. Continue to develop your craft- BSN of 30 years. It’s a long trip.

I’m so discouraged I didn’t get a job at one of my two local hospitals so I’m considering taking a job in a nursing home with 17 patients and working there for at least a year so I feel that :/ it’s frustrating when other people who cheated through our classes and into the program have job offers and I don’t lol but I’m happy as long as I have a job

I understand the frustration. I was very lucky that I got a new manager at my one year mark who happened to also oversee OB, I got right in. My friend on another unit, however, had to keep trying for 3 years. Moral of the story: don’t give up. Network, see about opportunities to float to your desired units (if possible) and make yourself known. Good luck!

as much as I love nursing, it is so clicky and you know what when you work in one unit you’re right you get stuck there until someone finally pulls you up and get you into another unit. Might consider going to a different hospital or something. I don’t know I feel your pain. I’m stuck in a cute rehab with ED experience but not enough ED experience to go back in the ED so I feel your pain.

queen i unfortunately have to leave my hometown for a nursing position in another state, i live in Vegas but it’s soo bad over here we have like 24 nursing school and it’s so saturated. I am leaving to work in another state for a year and coming back hopefully with a year of experience and more opportunities to get a position here!! 🥲🫶🏼

From what I’ve seen having worked at a hospital in LA, It’s not what you know it’s who you know. Once you get in it’s easier to move around once you become cool with the right people. You might have an easier time getting a job for county or the VA, that’s less who you know, but still.

I’m working as a tech in the specialty I want to work as a nurse. Probably the best way to get in that area. Obviously you don’t want a tech position now, but it’s helpful for people in school still🫶

I worked a year in med surg with telemetry. I went to the ER. Med surg is not the end. I would keep looking and putting yourself out there. Go to hiring events it could help you get in the door.
