I do this all the time. One day I was driving my work truck with a coworker in the passenger seat. I like to leave space so I can see when traffic ahead starts slowing down. As I noticed everyone stopping, I started slowing down too and turned on my hazard lights. My coworker asked, “Why are you putting your hazards on? Aren’t they only for emergencies?” I looked at him like, “Really?” A sudden stop on the highway is an emergency. Turning on your hazard lights lets the drivers behind you know that something unexpected is happening ahead and that they’ll need to slow down or stop too. It gives them an extra warning and can help prevent they rear end you.

Hazards for a hard stop is the easiest way I can alert/catch the attention of the driver behind me so they have more time to react or safely maneuver out of the way. This has saved me from being rear ended many times, especially when driving on the highway!

The hazards lights are amazing!! When ever I come into unexpected traffic - 80 mph to 15 mph - I put them on so I don’t get hit hahaha

i’ve also seen someone who put their signal on to turn bc the car infront of them was turning so i slowed down and then we kept on driving
