I've always heard that ram is volatile and that it always needs power for it to keep its memory, but how much power does it really need?
Also with the implication that an entire operating system can be run on just ram, if you have enough RAM (128gb for example, which is a very extreme amount), would it be possible to run small games just on ram? if that is possible, could one person get an extreme amount of RAM, and use ram as an extremely fast storage device, or is there a certain point where too much would actually slow down, despite the speed of the sticks still staying relatively consistent. the theory comes from the fact that because ram is random Access memory, I've heard that giving an application or such too much of this, can make it slower because it has to look for what it needs, and with more ram, it has to look for it for longer, so I've heard.
