@historybyhumans: Robin Williams once made a grieving gorilla smile. She never forgot him. Koko had learned over 1,000 signs and understood 2,000 words of spoken English. When Williams visited in 2001, she hadn't smiled in six months. He changed that within minutes. When he died in 2014, his doctor told her they had lost a dear friend. Koko went quiet. Head bowed. Lip quivering. Then two words. Cry. Lip. Lip in Koko's language also means woman. Her way of saying she was a woman who needed to cry. Hosted by @hennasahota for History Photographed
